Seoul: The population

Seoul is the capital city of Korea. It has more than 580 years of long history as a capital city in this country. The satellite image from google map shows appoximate land size of seoul, though it is not all included in this sqare size. Apparently it's not that big city if you are just looking at the size of the city. BUT, there are more than 10 million people. To help your understand, I put another picture of Newcastle with the same scale. I don't know how many people live in this area, but you can imagine what it would like be if there are 10 million people here.

It's not good. Absolutely not good. Very crowded, traffic jams, all kind of pollution, and crimes. Well, some people might enjoy real city like life in Seoul. There are heaps of things to enjoy and eat. Good public transportation, clean public toielts, big screen movie theatres, and so on. Neverthless I'd rather choose Newcastle if a choice is given where to live. I love fresh air and water in here.

This is a graph showing the changes in population of Seoul since 1951. Data are taken from govement website, and I made a simple graph with excel.

Starting: Where is Korea?

Welcome to my blog, ladies and gentlemen.

Let me introduce myself first. I'm from Korea as most of you may know. I made this blog to help you understanding Korea a bit more. I'm not a professional in doing this, but I'll do my best to introduce my mother country to you.

I found many people overseas understand Korea as just a poor country, and I understand it. Because heaps of flooding information come everyday, and only exciting or stimulating news tend to be taken, such as Korean war, violent demonstration, or a nuclear threat of north Korea.

Let's begin with 'geography'. Korea is in Asia. If you ask me which countries are in east Asia, I would say Korea, China, and Japan. I'm not sure whether I should include Tiwan and Russia. I'm probably going to post about China and Tiwan later, with my personal view. To say in advance, particulary when it comes to history, people in those three countries, Korea, China, and Japan, have quite much different perspectives over the history. It makes conflict sometimes among these countries.

Korea is surrounded by three big countries. They are China to the west, Japan to the east, and Russia to the north-east. It is a peninsula which is surrounded by sea. The only way to the land is north side, which is blocked the way by north Korea. Because of the geographical benefits, which are linking the land(China) and island(Japan), Korea has been invaded by foreigns 931 times thoughout the history. And we survived. :)

Maps are taken from google map.

Later on, I'm going to post things about north Korea, Korean language, Korean personality, the conflicts of these three countries, and so on. Thanks for your reading.
